How to Order a Horse

Stabling:

Stabling consists of box stalls in Barns A through F, or in paddocks, almost all of which come equipped with shelters. Assignment of stalls is on a first come, first served basis. Stalls and paddocks may be reserved, for a daily reservation charge, while horses are temporarily away.

School Horses:

The Club maintains school horses for use by members and their guests. Arrangements for their use must be made at least 24 hours in advance through the Stable Office or Club Trainer.

Feeding, Cleaning & Blanketing:

Horses are fed alfalfa or oat hay twice daily. Timothy hay may be substituted for one or both feedings for an additional monthly charge. Stalls and paddocks are cleaned daily, with the exception of Mondays and holidays when the Club is closed. Horses are blanketed as needed or when requested. Please be sure to clearly label your blankets with an indelible laundry marker, with both your name and the horse's name.

Full Grooming Service:

Flintridge Riding Club's monthly horse board includes full convenience grooming service. This means your horse will be groomed (including brushing or vacuuming), saddled, and boots put on if required. Please make sure all your tack is well labeled! If you have more than one saddle, be sure to specify "Saddle #1" or "Dressage Saddle" when ordering your horse. Each rider bridles his/her own horse. After riding, a groom will untack your horse, sponge him off or give him a shower, and put him on the hot walker, according to the rider's wishes. The rider is responsible for putting away his/her own saddle and bridle.

Grooming Hours:

To accommodate our early birds, the Club has one groom who begins at 7:00 am Tuesdays through Fridays. On Saturdays and Sundays, all grooms start at 7:30 am and work until 4:30 pm. Horses must be ordered by telephone or in writing on the big chalkboard at the head of Barn "C" at least one hour, preferably more, in advance. Grooms require at least fifteen minutes to prepare a horse, which means the earliest time a horse can be requested is fifteen minutes after the beginning of the work day, or after the lunch break. All riders have the option of getting and tacking up their own horses.

In the evening, there is one groom who works until 6:30 pm, Tuesdays through Fridays to put horses away only (horse preparation ends at 5:00 pm.) During the summer daylight savings time, one groom will put horses away until 7:00 pm Tuesdays through Fridays. Please return your horse at least fifteen minutes before the end of the groom's shift, so that he has enough time to properly cool the horse down and put it away. All riders have the option of putting away their own horses.

There are certain 'peak times' when the grooms are especially busy, such as early mornings and after school. During horse shows held at the Club, members scheduled to participate in the show have priority for horse grooming over members coming to ride recreationally, should there be a conflict. The Club appreciates your understanding and patience during these times.

Tack Rooms:

Tack Rooms are available for convenient storage of tack trunks (please no more than one per horse), and tack in current use. 'Inactive' tack trunks will be stored in another location. Bridles that have been used and placed on the 'cleaning hook' will be cleaned that evening.

Laundry:

Laundry and Repair of horse blankets and saddle pads is not performed on site, but is arranged for through an outside service as a convenience to members. Blankets and pads can be placed in the large wooden box on the outside of the Stable Office. They are also gathered periodically by stable staff, so please contact the Stable Office if you do NOT want your blankets and/or pads washed through this service. Even if you choose to launder your own items, all blankets, pads, wraps, and other items should be marked with an indelible LAUNDRY marker (Magic Marker sometimes fades or washes out), clearly indicating owner and horse name if you have more than one. Check periodically to make sure blankets markings are still clearly readable. Clean blankets not in current use are stored in the Stable Blanket Room and brought out at owner's request. Laundry and repair services are billed to your member account.

Farriers:

Farriers are usually on the grounds each day. Unless otherwise specified, your horse will be shod regularly by the Club Farrier. Shoeing Charges will be billed to your member account. You may also use your own farrier, who will bill you directly.

Veterinarians:

Veterinarians are always on call and visit regularly throughout the week. Please specify to the Stable Manager which vet you wish to use for your horse. In case of emergency, the first available veterinarian will be called, and we will notify you as soon as possible. Veterinarians will bill you directly for their services. Twice each year (usually in April and September) all horses on the grounds are given shots for influenza and other diseases, are wormed, and teeth and sheaths are checked. Any additional shots must be requested by the owner. Records are maintained in the Stable Office. Billings for immunizations will be billed directly to you by the veterinarians.

Tack Shop:

The FRC Tack Shop located inside the Stable Office maintains a small inventory as a convenience to members. Members, guests and visitors may purchase from a limited selection of equestrian supplies, riding apparel and tack. Items not in stock may be ordered. Prices are competitive with local tack shops and catalogs. As an additional convenience, tack repair can be arranged for, and the work will be performed off-site through an outside service. When the tack is returned, the member account will be billed.

Other Special Services available at additional cost include:

* Feeding of medications, vitamins and/or supplements to your horse by Club Staff.

* Body Clipping.

* Chasing/Lunging of your horse

* Mane Pulling.

* Purchase of sacks of special feed or shavings

All requests for special services must be made through the Stable Manager in advance. Special services will be billed to your member account.

SMALL CHILDREN MUST NOT BE LEFT UNATTENDED IN THE STABLE AREA OR ANYWHERE ON THE CLUB GROUNDS. THE SAFETY OF CHILDREN, HORSES, AND RIDERS SHOULD GOVERN THE ACTIONS OF ALL CLUB MEMBERS, THEIR GUESTS, AND ANY VISITORS, AT ALL TIMES.
