Suzie has been involved in the horse industry for most of her life both as a rider/trainer and as an Equine Veterinary Technician.
Most recently, Suzie was a trainer at Taking the Reins, a non-profit organization that is dedicated to fostering the physical
and mental well being of at risk teenage girls through equestrian activities. Suzie rode at the Paddock in Los Feliz as a
child with Randy Redmer, and then returned to ride with Kim Baxter. She has attended clinics with Hilda Gurney, Robert Dover
and most recently with Krissey Harrison.
Suzie maintains the philosophy that when it comes to horses and riders, human safety is first, horse safety is second
and everything else is third. She is extremely excited to have joined the extraordinary group of trainers at Flintridge. Taking
over the beginner-riding program provides Suzie the opportunity to combine her two favorite things-children and horses.
An experienced educator, Suzie has worked at The Buckley School, LAUSD and directed summer camps. Suzie has an associate's
degree in liberal studies and a bachelor's degree in child development from California State University-Northridge.
Suzie is offering introductory private lessons for new beginner riders. This program is suitable for both adults and children.
The lessons will emphasize teaching the new rider safe horse handling from the ground up. Introductory lessons will include
grooming, tacking up, and basic riding skills. Lessons will be designed to instill confidence and allow riders to achieve
their own personal riding goals whether it is for pleasure or the show ring.
Suzie starts her students using the balance seat. This position allows the student the flexibility to choose the desired
style of riding that is best suited for their ultimate goal, whether it is dressage or hunt seat. Suzie has worked with both
beginner adults and children and finds that teaching people to ride is extremely gratifying. Suzie is available for private
and group lessons.
